A large village in the north, built around a hill above one of Malta’s best-known sandy bays. Mellieħa is the choice for people who want space, quiet and countryside, and who are willing to accept that they are a long way from the centre.

The lifestyle

Mellieħa runs on two seasons. In summer the bays and the roads to them are busy and the village is lively; in winter it is very quiet, and some businesses that serve visitors close or reduce hours. That quiet is exactly what many residents want and what makes others leave after a year. Distances are the main consideration: the drive to Sliema or St Julian’s is significant at peak times, and public transport, while it exists, is slow. A car is not optional.

Property in Mellieha

The most varied market of the ten: apartments and maisonettes in and around the village, villas and farmhouses in the surrounding countryside, and a good number of properties with outdoor space, gardens or pools — rare closer to the centre. A significant share of the stock is used for holiday letting, so long-term availability can be thinner in summer, and some landlords prefer winter lets. Sea views are common and priced accordingly.
