A small inland village in the south, historically a quarrying community and still surrounded by the stone workings that supplied much of Malta. Quiet, plain and inexpensive.

The lifestyle

Mqabba is a working village rather than a pretty one, and it is honest about that. The quarries nearby mean lorry traffic on some roads and dust in dry weather, which is worth asking about depending on the street. Aircraft pass overhead — how noticeable that is depends on the runway in use and is worth checking at a viewing. Otherwise it is quiet and residential, with local shops and a strong feast. A car is needed for most things; Zurrieq, Luqa and the airport are all short drives. Rents and prices here are among the lowest within easy reach of the centre.

Property in Mqabba

Mostly townhouses and maisonettes, with newer apartment blocks appearing. Stone is local and plentiful, so older properties are solidly built if often unmodernised. Outdoor space is common. This is one of the more affordable markets in Malta and turnover is modest — availability rather than choice tends to decide.
