A village on the western cliffs, at the highest point in Malta. Dingli is rural, exposed and quiet, and people move there for the countryside and the sunsets rather than for anything practical.
The lifestyle
Dingli is genuinely rural and reasonably remote by Maltese standards. Buses run to Rabat and onwards but they are not frequent, and a car is close to essential. The village itself has what a village has — a pharmacy, a few shops, some good food — and anything more is in Rabat. Winter is noticeably windier and cooler up here than by the sea, which is worth knowing before signing. In exchange there is quiet, dark skies at night, and the cliffs at the end of the road. Sunday afternoons bring visitors driving out for the view, and the roads to the cliffs get busy then.
Property in Dingli
Village houses and townhouses make up much of the older stock, with farmhouses in the surrounding countryside and a growing number of apartments and maisonettes on the edges. Outdoor space is far more achievable here than on the coast. Older stone properties can be cold and damp in winter if unmodernised, which is worth asking about directly. Unfurnished lettings are common.
