A large, established residential town inland from St Julian’s, and one of the more practical places to live if you want space and are content to drive. San Gwann is not scenic, but it is well located, well served and generally better value than the coast.
The lifestyle
San Gwann is a place people live rather than visit. Much of it is ordinary residential streets of flats and maisonettes, with commercial activity along the main roads, which carry heavy traffic at peak times. There is no seafront and little to walk to for an evening out — that means driving to St Julian’s, which is only a few minutes but is still driving. What it offers in return is space, normality and a shorter list of compromises for families.
Property in San Gwann
Apartments and maisonettes dominate, with the maisonette — its own entrance, often with a yard or terrace — being one of the reasons families choose the area. There are townhouses in the older core and newer blocks around the edges. Stock is generally larger than in Sliema or St Julian’s at a similar rent. Both furnished and unfurnished long lets are common.
