A village in Gozo’s far west, one of the prettiest on either island, with a fine baroque square and open country all around it. Remote, quiet and much loved.
The lifestyle
Gharb is remote even by Gozitan standards, and that is the point. It is a long way from the ferry and a fair way from Victoria, so a car is not negotiable and the crossing to Malta is a genuine undertaking. The village itself is beautiful and very quiet, with a handful of shops and bars. In winter it is extremely still. The properties that come up here are among the most attractive on the island and are priced accordingly, with holiday letting competing hard for the best of them. Anyone thinking of living here year-round should spend a January weekend doing so first.
Property in Gharb
Weighted heavily towards converted farmhouses and houses of character, many with pools and courtyards, restored to a high standard. Townhouses in the core come up occasionally. There is comparatively little modern apartment stock. Long lets are scarce because holiday letting pays better; buying is the more realistic route here.
