A traditional village in the south-east, inland from Marsaxlokk. Ghaxaq is quiet and residential, with a well-kept core and a reputation locally for its feasts.

The lifestyle

Ghaxaq is a working Maltese village and life in it is local. It is quiet for most of the year and then very lively indeed around the feast — worth knowing in advance rather than discovering. Amenities are village-scale with more in Zejtun and Tarxien nearby. A car is necessary; buses run but slowly. The airport is close, so aircraft can be heard on some days. Prices are low for the space, and families get a good deal here provided the daily journey is not to Sliema.

Property in Ghaxaq

Townhouses and houses of character in the older streets, maisonettes and newer apartments around the edges. Yards and roof terraces are usual. Condition varies and older properties often need modernising. Unfurnished lettings dominate for houses; apartments are mixed.
