A dense residential town in the inner south, best known for its neolithic temples and otherwise almost entirely a place people live. Central, inexpensive and unfashionable.
The lifestyle
Tarxien is built up and busy in the way the inner south is: narrow streets, cars parked on both sides, and neighbours close. There is not much green and there are no views. What there is instead is position — Valletta and the Three Cities are close, the bus service is decent, and prices are low. It is a solidly Maltese town rather than an expat one. Parking is difficult. For anyone working in the south or the capital who wants to spend less on rent than the harbour towns demand, it is a practical choice rather than a romantic one.
Property in Tarxien
Mostly townhouses and maisonettes in the older streets, with apartments in newer blocks. Properties are generally modest; outdoor space, where it exists, is a yard or a roof rather than a garden. Condition varies widely. Prices are among the lower for somewhere this central. Unfurnished lettings are common.
