A planned town in the inner south, laid out in the nineteen-sixties with gardens and green space between the housing. It is unlike anywhere else in Malta and considerably quieter than its neighbours.
The lifestyle
Santa Lucija feels different from the towns around it because it was designed rather than grown. The streets curve, there are trees and gardens, and traffic mostly goes around rather than through. It is quiet, residential and slightly sleepy — there is little commercial life within the town, so shopping means Paola or Tarxien next door. The Chinese Garden of Serenity is a genuine local amenity. It suits families and older residents particularly well, and it is one of the few places in Malta where a house with a garden is a normal rather than exceptional prospect at a reasonable price.
Property in Santa Lucija
Predominantly terraced houses and maisonettes from the original development, many with front gardens and back yards — a layout that barely exists elsewhere on the island. Some newer apartments have appeared. Properties are often unmodernised inside, which is reflected in the price. Unfurnished lettings are the norm.
