Gozo’s easternmost village, above the Mgarr ferry and looking across to Comino and Malta. Qala is quiet, well kept and popular with people who need to cross regularly.
The lifestyle
Qala’s position is its main argument: it is the shortest run to the ferry, which for anyone crossing to Malta weekly or more turns a long journey into a manageable one. The village itself is quiet and well kept, with a good square, basic shops and a strong community. Everything else is in Victoria, fifteen minutes away. The eastern edge has views across to Comino that are among the best on the island. Development pressure around Hondoq has been a live local issue for years, which is worth being aware of if buying nearby.
Property in Qala
A mix of converted farmhouses, apartments and maisonettes, with newer development on the edges taking the sea views. Pools are common in the farmhouse stock. Holiday letting competes for the better properties in summer, so long-let availability is better approached outside the season. Prices for sea-view property are among the higher on Gozo.
