The stretch around the old salt pans at the head of Salina Bay, between Bugibba and the coast road south. It is quieter than the resort towns beside it and the setting — water, salt pans and the nature reserve — is unlike anywhere else on the island.
The lifestyle
Salina is calmer than its neighbours, which is its whole character. The reserve and the salt pans keep a stretch of the coast undeveloped, so the walk along the water is uninterrupted in a way it is not further round the bay. Summer brings traffic on the coast road and crowds into Bugibba next door, and the difference between a flat facing the bay and one facing the road is worth checking. Amenities are next door rather than here. A car is the norm, though the bus along the coast is workable for St Paul’s Bay and Bugibba.
Property in Salina
Mostly apartments, a good number of them with a view over the bay or the salt pans. The stock is generally newer than in the older village cores, with lifts and parking common. Prices sit below the harbour towns for comparable space and outlook, which is what brings people out this far. Furnished lettings dominate, as they do throughout the north.
