Gozo’s central town, known to everyone on the island as Rabat, built around the Citadel on its hill. Victoria is where Gozo does its shopping, banking and business, and it is the practical choice for anyone who wants to live on Gozo without being cut off from everything.
The lifestyle
Victoria is busy during the day and empties in the evening — Gozo is quiet at night and Victoria is no exception. It is a Gozitan town, not a resort, so life runs in Maltese and on local rhythms, and winter is much quieter than summer. The important consideration is the crossing: the ferry plus the queue makes commuting to Malta impractical as a daily routine for most people. For anyone working on Gozo or working remotely it is the most convenient address on the island.
Property in Victoria
Older stock dominates: townhouses and houses of character in and around the core, with apartments in the newer parts and farmhouses in the countryside beyond. Courtyards and roof terraces are common. Prices are well below comparable property in Malta. Condition varies widely, and older Gozitan houses can be cold and damp in winter — worth checking rather than assuming. Long unfurnished lets are more common than in Malta’s expat areas.
