One of Gozo’s largest villages, on a plateau above Ramla Bay with a wide square at its centre. Xaghra is among the most sought-after addresses on the island for people relocating from Malta or abroad.
The lifestyle
Xaghra is a proper village with enough going on to live in rather than merely sleep in — shops, cafes, a health centre, schools. It is quieter in winter, when much of Gozo empties, and that seasonal swing is real: some businesses close and the island slows markedly. A car is essential on Gozo generally and here specifically. Getting to Malta means the ferry from Mgarr, which is reliable but adds a fixed cost in time to any trip — anyone thinking of commuting daily should make the journey both ways before deciding. For remote workers, families and people buying a second home, it is one of the most popular choices on the island.
Property in Xaghra
Converted farmhouses with pools are the category Xaghra is known for, and they range from modest to very substantial. Alongside them are townhouses and houses of character in the core, and newer apartments and maisonettes at the edges. Outdoor space is normal. Rental supply is thinner and more seasonal than in Malta — long lets compete with holiday letting, which affects both availability and price through the year.
